Updates
The weather is finally warming up in my area of Cincinnati and it is GLORIOUS! I love being able to have the windows open to let in the fresh air and sunshine. March has positively flown by with a lot less writing and a lot more Procedure Prep, Pet Stress, and Tough Decisions.
I had my pre-op appointments! They went well but its a lot of information that I’m trying to process.
Banjo developed a concerning diabetic symptom and needed a sudden weekend vet visit. Good news is that he’s doing well and actually needs a lower insulin dosage. Hopefully we can get him sorted out before surgery.
My budgie, Atticus, passed away. She’d been struggling with an illness for awhile so it wasn’t a shock but losing a pet is never easy. Nor was the decision to re-home my second budgie, Bertie. I’ve had a variety of budgies for 17 years and its been a huge adjustment not having them around. I keep ‘reaching’ for them in so many ways.
In happier news, I’ve been making a little list of Things to Do in Recovery so that when I am inevitably bored from resting (I am bad at rest) or just in enough brain fog from pain that I’ll know what to reach for.
The list currently holds
A re-read of Monstress. I have so many single issues to catch up on
Watch X-men ‘97
Watching previously unseen Studio Ghibli films (Spirited Away is a big one that I’m eager to watch)
Break personal record of 22 books read in a month. The last time I did this was during lockdown. It’s going to be a lot of romcoms, middle grade, and light reads.
Disclaimer: I’m really bad at watching tv / movies, even those that I am genuinely interested in! However, since my movement is going to be limited, now is the time!
Speaking of reading…
Promo Time
Are you trying to avoid Amazon? Do you want to help support a Canadian business and your author buddies?
Kobo Plus is a subscription service for ebooks and audiobooks available through Kobo. It works in a similar way to Kindle Unlimited, but has a whole list of other books available. You can read (or listen to) as many books as you'd like every month for one small price. Check out what they have available and try out your first month for free. The Kobo app is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, as well as on their dedicated Kobo ereaders, which even come in color!
Kobo Plus is actually far better for authors. With KU, authors are restricted from selling the book anywhere else. Not so with Kobo Plus! Authors are paid per pages read, but are also allowed to sell across multiple platforms. It’s really neat!
The Necromancer’s Apprentice is apart of this Kobo Plus Initiative! Click the banner above to see a whole host of other great fantasy reads available to purchase or read through K+!
Next Steps
Do the big health procedure! Get some answers regarding my chronic pain and hopefully some major relief! Recover well and with great patience.
I’ll also be setting up ARCs for What the Sea Brings, sending out cover reveal sign-ups, and doing as much promo prep as I can from bed. Proofreads should arrive later in April and then?? What the Sea Brings will be finished?! Wild stuff.
Writing Updates
I’ll be honest - I haven’t touched the Forest Book in a good long while but I simply do not have the spoons. I’m nervous about this because release for What the Sea Brings is rapidly approaching and its my only buffer book. I need to finish something in order to keep up with my self-desired One Book a Year.
Maybe I’ll be able to finish this nightmare draft during recovery. Perhaps not.
But that’s ok cause the words will return and I can focus on launching What the Sea Brings.
I *did* get some really shiny bookmarks AND have two copies of proofs that have been delivered! This book is really beautiful y’all. I can’t wait for you to see it :)
The Cats
See y’all in April and in the midst of Procedure Recovery!
While I’ve chosen not to monetize my Substack, if you’re interested in supporting me financially, you can do so through my Ko-Fi.
